The $130 Ticket or the $258 One

This is the fork every Zermatt planner hits, usually the night before. Both tickets ride the same line out of Zermatt; both deliver the viewing platform at 3,883 m and the glacier palace. The difference is everything after Trockener Steg.

What each buys

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, about $130. The summit visit: platform, palace, the classic photographs. 4.8/5 across 1,300+ bookings - the most-booked ticket on the mountain, and honestly enough for most first visits.

Testa Grigia, about $258. Everything above, plus the Glacier Ride II crossing over the Theodul Glacier to the border station at Plateau Rosa - the highest continuous cable-car crossing in the Alps, completed July 2023 - and access to the SnowXperience snow park beside the station when it runs.

The three cases for the premium

One: a genuinely clear forecast - the crossing is a view machine, and fog refunds nothing but regret (free cancellation to 24 hours does the refunding instead). Two: kids - the snow park turns a look-at-mountains day into a play-in-snow day, and the access rides along on the ticket. Three: the border - standing on the Swiss-Italian line at 3,458 m with the runs pouring toward Cervinia is the story this ticket sells.

Outside those three, spend $130, enjoy the same platform, and put the difference into raclette. This site sells the expensive ticket and tells you that anyway, because the reviews that go bad are written by people who bought altitude fog at a premium.
